TYS Recruitment is seeking an experienced individual or team for a live-in, shore-based position as a House Manager/Chef for a private estate in South Carolina. This role has historically one individual, however the client is open to a couple taking on this role, where one would be the House Manager, and the other the Chef.

You will be working in a newly built estate, South Carolina. The property includes a dock with a 44' Hinckley motorboat, which is often used for entertaining. The owners have 2 grown children and 8 grandchildren who visit occasionally. There are also 2 cocker spaniels on the property, cared for by one of the permanent staff members.
Household Management
As the House Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the property. This includes managing and coordinating schedules for 3 permanent staff (housekeeping, maintenance, caretaking) and 4 part-time staff. You will coordinate and oversee outside service work, manage vendor relationships, and schedule maintenance appointments as needed. Processing and forwarding bills to the family office for payment will also fall under your purview.
A critical aspect of your role will be maintaining a detailed and flexible daily schedule, adapting it based on whether the owners are home or traveling. Ensuring a calm and quiet working environment is paramount to the success of this position.
Chef
Your chef responsibilities will primarily involve preparing lunches and approximately 4 dinners (per week), with flexibility based on the owners' schedules and preferences. You'll be expected to cater for casual dinners and weekend lunches with friends, as well as manage food preparation for cocktail parties and lunches on the Hinckley. When houseguests are present, you'll take charge of all meals to ensure a pleasant stay for all.
Additional Duties
In addition to household management and culinary duties, you may be called upon to assist with butler-style services as needed. Maintaining clear and efficient communication with the owners is crucial, providing updates on completed tasks as required. The position demands adaptability to a flexible 5-day workweek, with potential for extended time off during the owners' travel periods.
The successful candidate or team will demonstrate excellent attention to detail and possess strong communication skills. Flexibility and adaptability are crucial in this role, as is the ability to work independently and maintain trust. A calm and professional demeanour is essential for maintaining the desired atmosphere in the household.
